New Aadhaar App: Features & How to Use

UIDAI launched a new Aadhaar app in November 2025 (full version with update services from early 2026), replacing the older mAadhaar app. Built around face authentication and privacy-first sharing, it turns your phone into a secure digital Aadhaar wallet — you can verify identity, lock biometrics, share selective details via QR, and even update your mobile number or address from home.

✅ mAadhaar vs the new appThe new “Aadhaar” app is UIDAI's current flagship: face authentication, biometric lock, QR-based sharing, selective data disclosure, and mobile/address updates. If you still use mAadhaar, switch to the new app — UIDAI is retiring the old one.

Key features

  • Face authentication: verify identity with a live face scan from your phone camera — no fingerprint device needed in many cases.
  • Biometric lock/unlock: lock or unlock fingerprint, iris, and face authentication with a tap.
  • QR-based sharing: show a secure QR code for verification instead of handing over your card or number.
  • Selective share: choose exactly what to reveal (photo, name, age, gender, address, mobile) instead of all-or-nothing.
  • Mobile number & address updates: update your registered mobile number (₹75) and address from the app's Services tab.
  • Family profiles: add up to 5 family members' Aadhaar profiles on one phone (each set up with its own OTP verification).
  • Authentication history: see when and where your Aadhaar was used for authentication.
  • PVC card order: order the plastic PVC card and track delivery from the app.

How to download and set up the app

Install from the official store

Download “Aadhaar” from the Google Play Store (Android 9+) or Apple App Store (iOS 16+). Check the developer is UIDAI — fake apps exist.

Begin setup

Open the app, choose your language, tap through the intro, and enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number.

Verify and authenticate

Complete SIM/OTP verification and the face-authentication step, agree to the terms, and set your app PIN.

Your digital Aadhaar appears

Your Aadhaar profile loads in the app. Add family members from the Profile section if needed (up to 5 profiles).

Updating mobile number / address in the app

Open the Services tab → Mobile Number Update (or Address Update). The app shows your current registered details; enter the new value, verify with OTP, complete face authentication, and pay the fee (₹75 for mobile update). UIDAI processes the request — allow up to 15–30 days for it to reflect. Full walkthroughs: mobile update guide · address update guide.

Safety notes

  • Download only from the official app stores; never from links in SMS or WhatsApp messages.
  • If your phone is lost, your Aadhaar data stays protected behind the app PIN and authentication — but lock your biometrics as an extra precaution if you cannot access the app.
  • The app never asks for money except the official update fees paid inside the app itself.
