Update Address in Aadhaar Online: Complete Guide

⚠️ Independent guide — not a government websiteSuchnaPath is an independent informational guide and is not affiliated with UIDAI or any government body.

Moved to a new house or city? Your Aadhaar address can be updated online on the myAadhaar portal (or in the new Aadhaar app) by uploading a valid proof of address — no centre visit needed for most cases. The key to approval is uploading a clear, valid document where the name and address match your Aadhaar record.

How to update your address online — step by step

Log in to myAadhaar

Go to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in, log in with your Aadhaar number and the OTP sent to your registered mobile.

Choose address update

Select Address Update and enter your new address exactly as it appears on your proof document — every line, spelling, and pin code.

Upload proof of address

Upload a clear scan/photo of one accepted address proof (list below). Blurry or cropped uploads are the #1 reason for rejection.

Pay the fee and submit

Pay the update fee online (₹75 for demographic updates) and submit. Save the URN (Update Request Number) to track your request.

Track and download

Track the URN on the portal. Once approved (usually within a few weeks), download your updated e-Aadhaar.

Documents accepted as address proof

UIDAI accepts a wide list of proof-of-address (PoA) documents. Commonly used ones include:

  • Passport, driving licence, voter ID
  • Bank / post office passbook or statement (with photo)
  • Electricity, water, gas, or telephone bill (recent, typically not older than 3 months)
  • Ration card, property tax receipt
  • Registered rent / lease agreement with a utility bill
  • Employer-issued address proof or government ID cards
⚠️ Rejection-proof your uploadMost rejections happen because: the scan is blurry or cropped, the name spelling on the document differs from Aadhaar, the address is incomplete, or the bill is too old. Match the document's name spelling to your Aadhaar exactly.

No address proof in your name? (Head of Family option)

If you live with family and have no address proof in your own name (common for spouses, children, elderly parents), UIDAI offers a Head of Family (HoF) based update: the head of the family shares their address with you after OTP consent. This is done online on the myAadhaar portal.

Offline alternative

You can also update your address at any Aadhaar Seva Kendra by filling the update form, submitting the original proof document for verification, and paying the fee. Useful if your online request was rejected or you prefer in-person help.
