Update Mobile Number in Aadhaar: Complete Guide

⚠️ Independent guide — not a government websiteSuchnaPath is an independent informational guide and is not affiliated with UIDAI or any government body.

Your mobile number is the key to almost every Aadhaar service — OTPs for downloads, updates, and authentication all go to the number registered with your Aadhaar. If you have changed your SIM or lost access to the old number, update it in UIDAI's records. As of 2026 there are two ways: the new Aadhaar app (from home, with face authentication) or a visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra / enrolment centre.

✅ Good news since 2026Mobile number update no longer always needs a centre visit. The full version of UIDAI's new Aadhaar app lets you update your mobile number from home using OTP + face authentication, for a ₹75 fee. The centre route still works and is needed if you cannot complete face authentication.

Option 1: Update via the new Aadhaar app (from home)

The new Aadhaar app (launched by UIDAI in November 2025, full version with update services from early 2026) has a dedicated mobile-number update service.

Download and set up the app

Install the official “Aadhaar” app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store (Android 9+ / iOS 16+). Sign in with your Aadhaar number, complete SIM/OTP verification and face authentication, and set your app PIN.

Open Services → Mobile Number Update

On the app's home screen, go to the Services tab and choose Mobile Number Update. The app shows the mobile number currently linked to your Aadhaar.

Enter and verify the new number

Type the new mobile number carefully and verify it with the OTP sent to that number by SMS. Double-check the digits — a wrong entry slows everything down.

Complete face authentication and pay

Complete the on-screen face authentication, then pay the ₹75 processing fee inside the app. Your request is forwarded to UIDAI.

Track the request

You get an Update Request (URN) number. Mobile updates can take up to 15–30 days to reflect in UIDAI's central records, so keep both numbers accessible meanwhile.

Option 2: Update at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra

If you cannot use the app — for example, face authentication fails or you have no smartphone — visit any Aadhaar Seva Kendra or enrolment centre:

Visit the centre

Walk in or book an appointment on the myAadhaar portal. Carry your Aadhaar number (the card or a copy is enough). No documents are needed for a mobile update.

Biometric authentication

The operator verifies your identity with your fingerprint/iris biometrics and captures the new mobile number.

Pay the fee and collect the slip

Pay the update fee (₹75 for demographic updates) and collect the acknowledgement slip with your URN to track the request.

Things to know

  • No documents are required for a mobile number update — it is verified through OTP and biometrics/face authentication, not paperwork.
  • Only one mobile number can be registered per Aadhaar at a time.
  • After the update reflects, OTPs for all Aadhaar services (downloads, PVC orders, PAN linking) will go to the new number.
  • Beware of fraud: UIDAI never asks for OTPs over calls or messages. Do the update only on the official app or at a centre.
🏛️ Official channels onlyUse the official “Aadhaar” app, the myAadhaar portal (myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in), or an authorised Aadhaar Seva Kendra. Never share OTPs with agents or callers.
